Michigan Cabin Retreat 2006

Below are pictures that I took at the 2006 Michigan Cabin Retreat.  They are in no particular order and they don't include everyone that was there.

This was the first one off of my camera so let's start the show here.  This is Sheryll (a/k/a Mrs. Booger) making a glass spider.  It was incredible and amazing to watch.  You almost wanted to hold your breath while she was working.  I think she WAS holding her breath.
Here is the actual bug in process.  It was cold at night in the garage so it didn't have a great chance of surviving.  :o(  But then again, either did some of the beads that were in the kiln that had a melt down.
Here is one of Brenna's beads.  She is an up and coming Booger but she was making a Loco bead here.  See that alien eye that was being formed.  (Sorry the picture is fuzzy...my camera was giving me a little trouble).

Here is our wonderful hostess, Nancy.  Do you know how much shopping it takes to provide food for 40+ people?  I do now...at least part of it.  I followed her up to the cabin and we made 3 or 4 stops at different grocery/food stores.  Wow.

Thanks Nancy, for all that you do for this retreat.  What a great place to hang out and get to know people...and you know, I'm not that social.

Here is Brenna, Nancy's daughter, in her alien head gear.  We told her she probably wouldn't need it this weekend but she insisted on wearing it.  There's always one.  She was on my team, or I should say, I was on hers, for the scavenger hunt so of course, we won.  ;o)

Here is Jim (a/k/a Mr. Booger) working on making a rose. Another amazing piece to watch being formed.  Gia showed one on Saturday too but I didn't have a chance to watch.  That's Julz taking a picture, and here is a close-up.

Here is Diane showing off the fish she caught while taking a break from torching.  Did you know they had singing fish in Michigan?  I thought it was only Indiana.  The sang a nice duet for us.

Here is Rona with the witch she won for the scavenger hunt activities.  Watch out...it might be coming to a mailbox near you soon.

I forgot to have my waxing done before I left for the cabin.  Smooches!

Jim serenading an enamoured Brenna.  Unfortunately, Stairway to Heaven and Wish You Were Here (is that the name?) by Pink Floyd didn't work for her.

An elated Melissa loving a break from her Hot Head.  I wonder if she's ordered her oxygen-propane set up yet?  She encased like a pro.

Part of our kitchen help.  I gotta get me one of those.  Oh wait, mine was at home with 2 little kids.  Never mind.  This is Dave, Nancy's husband.  What a great guy to come up to a cabin of 40 women and only a couple guys and help out!

Jim signing his work with one of those titanium pens for JudyinMN, I think.

Bead trading.  That was really fun!  All weekend people were just sitting around rumaging around through boxes of beads and picking out what they want. I can't tell who the first person is, second from left is Glassafrass, then Linda (bolimasa) who I got to spend some time and get to know and Joan Cross who I also hung out with some. I can't believe how nice and fun everyone was.
Here is part of the upstairs loft.  Sorry to those of you up there Saturday night when we laughed down below until about 3 a.m.  Between us and the others around you snoring away, I bet you didn't get too much sleep.

Another of Diane (rosebead) at one of the bracelet classes. I'm so happy that she enjoyed my art history lesson/vocabulary lesson.  I would encourage all of you to take that workshop next year.  Saturdays at midnight.

Here is JoyceMI, in one of the bracelet workshops.  Everybody's bracelets looked perfect.  Thanks to you great teachers!
Deb, caught by surprise, also in a bracelet workshop.  I think there were at least 3 altogether.  I couldn't sit still long enough for those so I was down by the torches most of the time.
Linda (bolimasa) working some of her magic.  You have to go to the cabin retreat if you want to see her work. Although she did make her first sale before she came so maybe we'll see more???

Diane at the torch and one of her little glass painted panels before it goes onto the bead.  I managed to trade for one of her "rub my butt' beads with a picture of her dog on it.  She told me that really, he asks for it.

Here is Sheryll at the torch and Linda watching Loco at the torch making the alien at the right here:

Here is JC, probably showing off her Kronos glass.  Not to mention what she could do with it.  I would have to say that she was one of my inspirations of the weekend.  Now, if I could just get some of that glass.  Too bad I don't have any blackmail pictures on her...hm....what could I get from Nancy?  I have plenty on her.  Oh sorry...I digress...on with the show...

And her's her stash.  I saw the case on one of the forums before and thought it was a lot smaller.  A lot of JC's beads are big!

Here is JudyinMN.  Another one that if you haven't met her and have the chance, make a point of it.  Sorry Judy...you'll have people flocking to you from all over now.  She's also the one that made it possible for me to torch.  She brought all kinds of glass, torch, and I-don't-know-what-the-heck-else but a lot of it.  Thanks Judy!

Judy said on one of the message boards that she looked cranky in one of the pictures.  I think this one makes up for it.

Her is Barb.  Now, I thought someone told me her screen name is BarbC but since I've gotten home I think I've seen 2 other Barbs from Michigan.  I didn't get to talk with her much but have you ever made friends with someone based only on eye-contact?  I think I did.  :o)  I can just TELL that she's really nice.  But who from Michigan isn't?  I miss the midwest.  Rona and Nancy are probably tired of hearing that by now.

Here's Melissa, the infamous, "everything-melted-in-your-kiln" Melissa.  Whew, that was a scare.  Hopefully everything will be ok when she gets it checked out.  She brought her husband Rob along...the one that makes the great bead press, frit and tool storage...or maybe he brought her...I don't know.  They also brought "kringle" with them. I don't have a sweet tooth but those things are GOOD!  Thanks Melissa!  It was great to meet you and Rob finally!

Here is the start of our torch area set up in the garage.  I think we had 7 torches set up inside and 2 hot heads outside. No, it wasn't torch discrimination, I was told that the hot heads are just really loud. Too bad it was windy and raining some of the time.

Here is Joan (JCross).  Eagerly dipping her mandrels in preparation for the weekend but she didn't even set her torch up.  Where were you, Joan?  I think she gets the bead trading award.  Every time I turned around she was trading beads with someone.  It was fun to watch.  You could see the wheels turning as she created jewelry pieces in her head.  I hear she had some really nice pearls too.

This one might have to be removed if Nancy finds it unflattering.  I think it's cute...probably because I got this a lot during the weekend.  Oh come on Nancy, "quiche me!"  (Notice I didn't say the other q word).

And, last but not least.  My answer to bone beads.  Organ Shards.  I think Organ beads will be coming soon.  This is my second successful shard.  Mr. Booger insisted that it looked like a part of a hog that a rubber band had slipped off.  I didn't ask for further clarification as to where he had seen that.  Amidst the debate over which organ it really looked like, Mrs. Booger came to the rescue with documenation (it looks like from the 50s) of the "Arterial Supply of the Stomach."  My only question was (after wiping the tears of laughter out of my eyes) was, "And you travel with this?"  Her answer?   "Doesn't everyone?"

Man, I love me some Boogers.

Thanks everyone, for a GREAT weekend!
